Prof. Jin kook Lee is a professor of economics at the University of Southern California. She focuses on economics of aging, which has become increasingly interdisciplinary in recent years. She has co-led the development of two multidisciplinary, longitudinal population surveys, the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA) and the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI). She also leads an international data harmonization project which makes a platform for population survey data on aging from 31 countries around the world.
During her presentation, she will introduce new findings. Recently Prof. Lee examined economic resources of Indian older adults and inequality across different segments of the population using the baseline Longitudinal Aging Study in India. She also investigated how individuals’ economic status within the household, based on their contribution to household income and asset holding, relates to influence in household decision-making as well as to health and wellbeing outcomes.

5月24日に行われたスペシャル・レクチャーでは、”Aging Unequally? The First Look at Wealth Inequality in India.” と題して講義が行われました。インドで行われたLongitudinal aging study in India (LASI)調査の結果について、収入、富、消費についての不平等、家庭の収入、富と認知能力、インドの相続に関する法律についての説明と最新の研究成果の発表がありました。特に、インド国内であってもラージャスタン州とケララ州における健康格差や、年齢別の富の格差、貧困についての活発なディスカッションが行われました。

昨今のインドは、経済発展が顕著であり、2016年のIMFの発表では、GDP(PPPs)は、2016年の7%から、15%に上昇すると予想されています。また、2016年にインドの経済をカードで決算できるようDemonetizationが突然始められ、経済が混乱をきたした状況の説明がありました。インド人の収入は、全体としては上昇していますが、低所得者層では国民全体の上昇率にくらべ微増との説明がありました。
今回のセミナーでは、13名の来場者がありました。
